Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody reflects on Chasing Cars and new Kylie Minogue collaboration

In 1994, Gary Lightbody established Snow Patrol while attending the University of Dundee, initially naming the group Shrug and Polarbear. He penned 'Chasing Cars' in a garden shed belonging to producer Jacknife Lee in 2005, originally meant for other musicians. The track turned into a worldwide sensation, amassing over two billion streams, and was recognized as the UK's most-played radio song of the 21st Century in 2019. Released as the second single from 'Eyes Open' in June 2006, it reached number six on the UK singles chart after appearing on 'Grey's Anatomy'. To commemorate its 20th anniversary, the band will perform at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2023, drummer Jonny Quinn and bassist Paul Wilson departed, leaving Lightbody, guitarist Nathan Connolly, and multi-instrumentalist Jonny McDaid, who enlisted producer Fraser T Smith for their upcoming album 'The Forest is the Path', which garnered their best reviews in two decades. Lightbody, a recovering alcoholic since 2016, recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by collaborating with Kylie Minogue on 'These Alarms', released last week, with their live debut at Crystal Palace.
