Snøhetta Designs Multifaceted Dining and Learning Venue in Hong Kong
ZS Hospitality Group has launched Solstice Culinary Space in Hong Kong's Central district, a multifaceted venue spanning two floors at 8 Lyndhurst Terrace. The project includes Sol restaurant, Uncle Quek restaurant, and a cooking studio, all unified by a design philosophy from Snøhetta, the Oslo-based architecture firm. Inspired by the astronomical solstice, the interiors by lead interior architect Ana Patricia Castaingts Gómez transition seasonally: the cooking studio features dark, introspective tones for winter, while Sol and Uncle Quek evoke summer with lighter materials and varied energy levels. The 340-square-meter space overcame structural ceiling constraints with a reflective concave surface that mimics the sun's arc. Menus blend culinary traditions, such as Korean home cooking with French techniques at Sol and Hokkien-inspired dishes at Uncle Quek. The cooking studio offers classes in multiple cuisines using professional equipment, emphasizing educational goals. Snøhetta's involvement, following their prior work on ZS's Whey restaurant, highlights a focus on experiential design tailored to gastronomic narratives. The venue opened after over a year of development, aiming to integrate dining with learning in a cohesive environment.
