Skovsporet: 3D-Printed Student Village Opens in Denmark

The completion of Skovsporet, a 3D-printed student housing project in Holstebro, Denmark, is set for welcoming its first residents in September. This initiative, crafted by SAGA Space Architects and MS+ Arkitekter, features 36 ground-floor apartments organized into six clusters that surround communal courtyards and gardens. Situated close to VIA University College, the design preserves 90 percent of the existing trees by placing the printing beds strategically among them. Each unit is equipped with a kitchen, study space, lounge, bathroom, and sleeping area, complemented by large roof windows and sloped ceilings. The construction utilizes 3D-printed concrete, incorporating FUTURECEM from Aalborg Portland and MEVOcem, a cement-free alternative with significantly reduced CO2 emissions for the bicycle shed. Structural components were printed on-site using a COBOD BOD3 printer. This development adheres to Denmark's subsidized housing guidelines, balancing budgetary limits with architectural excellence. Additionally, it acts as a research platform for SAGA Space Architects and 3DCP Group, who are exploring innovative material configurations and manufacturing techniques for future 3D-printed endeavors.
