Silvia Latis, former co-director of Abitare, dies at unknown age

Silvia Latis, a pillar of Editrice Abitare Segesta and former co-director of Abitare magazine, has died. She began as assistant to publisher Renato Minetto, became deputy editor under Italo Lupi in 1992, directed the quarterly Case da Abitare (now Living), and later served as co-director. Born into a family that shaped 20th-century Milanese design culture—her father Mario ran appliance maker Zerowatt, uncles Vito and Gustavo were architecture and design protagonists, and mother Amneris was a postwar communications figure—Latis started her career at De Padova in the early 1970s handling graphics and catalogs. She also worked for Abitare under Piera Peroni before joining the family business. After leaving Abitare following its acquisition by RCS, she consulted for Salone del Mobile until 2020. A surprise farewell party in 2007 was noted by Lina Sotis.
