Shushu/Tong Presents Fall 2026 Collection at Shanghai Fashion Week

Designers Liushu Lei and Yutong Jiang of the label Shushu/Tong presented their Fall 2026 collection during Shanghai Fashion Week at the Labelhood venue. The presentation attracted significant attention from the brand's dedicated following. Titled 'The Invented Self,' the collection explores themes of personal identity beyond familial constraints, as articulated by Lei. Creative inspiration was drawn from the 1978 Claude Chabrol film 'Violette Nozière,' starring Isabelle Huppert, which depicts a 1930s teenager's rebellion. The designs reinterpret 1930s and 1940s silhouettes through a highly stylized, feminine lens. A recurring motif featured handbags suspended from ceremonially bent elbows. The collection included various garments such as fitted cardigans, plaid skirts, knee-high socks with stirrups, velvet gowns with ruffled edges, coats with Peter Pan collars, and shift dresses. Drop-waist dresses and abundant bows were also present, aligning with broader trends observed at the fashion week. While the audience responded positively to the theatrical, full-look ensembles, pieces with less overt period reference were noted for their potential individuality. Highlights included a ruffled-track-skirt suit in pale yellow nylon and quarter-zip dresses with pleated skirts in a rich cotton blend. Several womenswear looks were also presented on male models, including a baby blue track top with shorts, testing the designs' adaptability. The collection aimed to facilitate personal reinvention through fashion.
