Shibanee & Kamal Architects, a Bangalore-based studio, insists on including gardens in every residential project they undertake. In an exclusive video interview with Dezeen, the firm explained that gardens are fundamental to their design process, influencing layouts and project delivery. Operating in densely populated Bangalore, they employ various spatial strategies to integrate greenery, such as staggered formats, duplexes, and interior gardens. To maintain design integrity, the studio established its own construction and development arm, Total Environment, after experiencing alterations from third-party developers. Their approach is exemplified in projects like Windmills of Your Mind, a high-rise in Bangalore's tech hub, which features extensive planting. The firm's philosophy stems from a personal connection to nature, inspired by childhood literature like Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree. Founded in 1996, the practice is also developing a residential community in Frisco, Texas, called Tapestry, with garden access for every room.
