Sharjah Architecture Triennial 2026: Curator Vyjayanthi Rao on Civic Infrastructure

exhibition · 2026-08-26

Scheduled to run from 14 November 2026 to 14 April 2027, the third Sharjah Architecture Triennial, named 'Architecture Otherwise: Building Civic Infrastructure for Collective Futures', will take place in Sharjah, UAE. Curated by Vyjayanthi Rao, the event broadens the concept of architecture to encompass civic, social, and cultural infrastructures. It will bring together architects, researchers, artists, and urban theorists to explore the impacts of migration, urbanization, and environmental changes on cities in the Global South. Emphasizing participation and adaptability rather than completed structures, Rao describes civic infrastructure as spaces like libraries that promote social ties. The Triennial will feature public engagements in Sharjah's parks, aiming to transform architectural education and document transitions. Organized by the Sharjah Architecture Triennial (SAT).
