Shane Charles Presents Mixed-Media Installation at Portland Museum of Art

The Portland Museum of Art is showcasing a new installation by Shane Charles titled 'Into the Sun.' This mixed-media work incorporates video projection, sculpture, and collage elements that explore themes of cartography, inheritance, and landscape transformation. The exhibition features imagery from Matinicus Isle, highlighting environmental changes from European settlement, and includes materials like Presumpscot formation clay that reference Penobscot territory. The project builds on Charles's earlier work 'Waiting for the Sun to Rise,' which was commissioned by the Center for Maine Contemporary Art with support from the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation and Island Institute.
