SGAE dissolves Instituto Autor after court ruling for moral damages

The Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE) has dissolved the Instituto Autor, a research center on intellectual property rights founded in 2005, following a court ruling that condemned the entity and its former president for violating the rights of a former employee. The Tribunal Superior de Justicia de Madrid (TSJM) overturned a previous ruling and ordered the Instituto Autor and its ex-president to pay €10,000 in moral damages. The SGAE will not appeal, but the ex-president will. The dissolution was preceded by an internal investigation into workplace harassment in April 2025. The employee had filed a labor lawsuit for fundamental rights protection and damages, initially dismissed in October but later upheld on appeal. The Instituto Autor's functions will be integrated into the SGAE.
