Sesc_Videobrasil Biennial Surveys Global South Memory
The Sesc_Videobrasil Biennial in 2023 presented over 100 works by 60 artists and collectives from 38 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Eastern Europe, Portugal, the Middle East, and Oceania. The curatorial focus explored memory and forgetting—individual and collective—tied to social, political, and cultural contexts. Works employed video, installation, photography, performance, and weaving. A parallel exhibition, "Especial 40 anos," traced the project's history from its first festival during Brazil's civil-military dictatorship. The biennial was held at Sesc 24 de maio from 2023 until February 25, 2024.
