September Auctions: From Hiroshige to Camille Claudel, Five Sales to Watch

As the art market resumes in September, auction houses are presenting a series of notable sales. Artcurial will disperse African and Oceanic art from the Jean-Jacques Rotthier collection on September 8, featuring around 70 lots including four monumental Songye statues (estimates between €40,000 and €80,000). The same house will hold the 'Le goût Rothschild' sale on September 22. Christie's will auction the first part of a private collection of over 600 works by Utagawa Hiroshige on September 15 in New York, titled 'Hiroshige: Couleurs des Quatre Saisons', with prints, paintings, and sketches assembled over nearly fifty years. Millon will host a series of sales from September 17 to 21, including the succession of Brigitte Bardot, the Gorokhoff Russian art collection, and the Durand-Dessert collection of about 160 works from Nepal and the Himalayas. On September 20, Philocale will sell the fifth bronze of Camille Claudel's 'L'Âge mûr', edited by Eugène Blot in 1907, estimated at €1.5-2 million, following the €3.6 million sale of the first version in 2025. Finally, Piasa will inaugurate its new 1,200-square-meter space at 54 rue de Monceau on September 23, with the sale of the Paul and Jacqueline Canfrère collection, featuring 70 works by post-war avant-garde artists such as Geer van Velde, Dado, Télémaque, Riopelle, and Sima.
