Selma Selman's First Italian Solo Show at GAMeC
From October 1, 2026, to January 24, 2027, GAMeC – Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo will host '1000 Tears', marking Selma Selman's inaugural solo exhibition in Italy. Selman, who was born in Bihać in 1991, delves into themes of autobiography and social critique, emphasizing issues of belonging and discrimination, with the backdrop of the Bosnian war. The exhibition includes a childhood image of Selman taken during the conflict and new graphic pieces inspired by discussions with the individuals portrayed. Additionally, a film excerpt from 'Crossing the Blue Bridge' (2024) revisits a traumatic incident from 1994. The initiative 'Letters to Omer' will invite audience participation through letters. Selman has also been advocating for Romani girls’ education via 'Get the Heck to School', established in 2017.
