So, just eight days after those twin earthquakes hit on June 24, a 43-year-old security guard named Hernan Gil was pulled alive from the rubble of a seven-story building that collapsed in Catia La Mar, Venezuela. The death toll is nearing 2,300, and many people are still missing. Rescuers from seven different countries, including Venezuela, Chile, the U.S., Portugal, Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Mexico, worked around the clock for three days to find Gil. They managed to provide him with over 10 liters of water through a hose and set up an oxygen tube for him. His wife, Gusbimar Gonzalez, called it "truly a miracle." The coastal area has been severely damaged.
