SEA Marks 30 Years with Limited-Edition Silver-Edged Book and Clerkenwell Party

London design studio SEA, founded by Bryan Edmondson in Bermondsey in 1996, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a 304-page hardback titled SEA 30, limited to 300 numbered copies with silver-edged pages. The volume, designed and edited in-house, was printed by TEAM, case-bound by Diamond, and uses paper from G.F. Smith. SEA has marked each decade similarly, producing books for its 10th and 20th anniversaries. A launch gathering at The Crypt in Clerkenwell drew industry friends, where photographer Rankin delivered what Edmondson describes as a brutal speech. Alan Dye of NB Studio, who met Edmondson at Roundel Design Group in 1992, recalled their decades-long friendship. Edmondson cites client relationships spanning 26 and 27 years, with Regatta among the longest, and notes that none of the studio's marks has yet been redesigned. The team has held at roughly 12 to 15 people for two decades, and Edmondson remains involved in every project. He points to sector diversity — finance to hospitality — as key to survival, recalling how Virgin Atlantic work halted after 9/11. He says he would still like to start a studio today.
