Science Museum Group Highlights Early Career Programs and Intern Achievements

The Science Museum Group has detailed the impact of its Early Career Programs across its six museum sites. These initiatives, including internships and traineeships, aim to create pathways into the cultural and heritage sectors while removing barriers to entry. In 2025, the internship program welcomed 12 participants across four museums, with placements in areas such as Fundraising, Curatorial, Communications, and Brand Licensing. Some interns contributed to the upcoming exhibition 'Manchester Cotton and Transatlantic Slavery.' The programs are conducted in partnership with organizations like the 10,000 Interns Foundation. Notable achievements from the 2025 interns include shaping the National Science and Media Museum's TikTok strategy, working with community researchers on Black Mancunian histories, supporting cybersecurity analysis, identifying new sales routes for licensed products, and conducting curatorial research on artifacts like the ancient Egyptian Merkhet. A spotlight features Ester, who began as an Exhibitions and Interpretation Intern in 2024, later secured a traineeship, and now works as a Talent Acquisition Coordinator. Her journey involved developing accessible exhibition content and coordinating the Young Railway Photographer of the Year competition at the National Railway Museum in York. Broader impacts include alumni moving into roles at institutions like the MET in New York, Christie's, Oxford University, the Old Vic, and Somerset House, as well as former interns founding businesses like Flair Financials. The programs aim to build a more inclusive and skilled future workforce, with ongoing expansion planned.
