Santa Barbara Museum of Art Presents 'Remixed: Entwined Histories and New Forms'

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is currently featuring an exhibition titled 'Remixed: Entwined Histories and New Forms.' This display showcases contemporary artists who ingeniously transform textiles, quilts, pigments, and found materials to reinterpret historical narratives into fresh visual formats. Among the artists on show are Anthony Olubunmi Akinbola, Jeffrey Gibson, Basil Kincaid, and Candice Lin, to name a few. They challenge the conventional view of history by deconstructing, stitching, and reconstructing various mediums, while exploring themes like migration, ancestry, spirituality, identity, and shared memory. This exhibit blurs the distinctions between fine art and craft, as well as personal stories and collective histories, and will be open until August 30, 2026.
