Sandy Linter’s Disco Beauty: Nighttime Make-Up Returns in 2026 Reprint
Makeup artist Sandy Linter has reissued her 1970s book Disco Beauty: Nighttime Make-Up, nearly 50 years after its original single print run. The 2026 edition, announced via Instagram in June, is available through a print-on-demand service at a much lower price than the $1,000 vintage copies that recently appeared on the resale market. The reprint retains nearly all original content, including cover model Bitten Knudsen, and adds tributes to late figures from the disco era, with a special dedication to model Gia Carangi, who died of AIDS-related complications in 1986. Models inside were dressed by then-up-and-coming designer Anna Sui. Makeup historian Erin Parsons, who paid about $200 on eBay for a vintage copy now in her Makeup Archive, notes the book’s value for its photographs of recognizable models like Carangi, unlike many period makeup books that relied on illustrations. Linter highlights the era’s distinctive blush application, contrasting it with today’s softer, rounder style. The reprint arrives as bold, expressive makeup trends resurge, offering a new generation access to a document of New York City’s disco scene and Linter’s work with clientele seen at Studio 54.
