San Francisco Homeowners Accept Anthropic Stock Instead of Cash

In San Francisco's overheated real estate market, where median house prices exceed $2 million, some sellers are now listing properties for Anthropic or OpenAI shares instead of cash. At 160 Noe Street in Duboce Triangle, an Edwardian home was listed at $2.9 million or equivalent stock. Listing agent Rachel Swann was inspired after meeting Anthropic employees with substantial paper wealth but limited liquidity. Similarly, in Healdsburg, Vijay Chattha listed his three-bedroom home with a pool and bocce court for $2.5 million or $2 million in Anthropic stock, offering a $500,000 discount to Anthropic employees. Chattha believes Anthropic shares will grow faster than other investments, citing the company's valuation surge from $380 billion in February to a reported $965 billion. In April, investment banker Storm Duncan offered his Mill Valley home and adjacent land for Anthropic shares. These listings coincide with Anthropic filing for an IPO and OpenAI reportedly preparing to file. Anthropic has updated its policy to prohibit unauthorized stock sales without board approval. Real estate agent Helena Zaludova called the listings a "clever gimmick," noting escrow companies cannot handle securities. Swann reported sustained interest from agents representing Anthropic and OpenAI clients.
