Salomé Exhibition at Musée Jean-Jacques Henner Features Henner and Moreau Works from 2026

The Musée national Jean-Jacques Henner in Paris will host an exhibition titled 'Salomé. Henner et Moreau face au mythe' from February 18 to June 22, 2026, showcasing around thirty works by Jean-Jacques Henner and Gustave Moreau centered on the biblical figure Salomé. This display includes drawings, sketches, and paintings, with a highlight being Henner's last Salomé painting from 1904, acquired by the Établissement public in November 2024 through a crowdfunding campaign. That oil on canvas, a late variant of his 1887 Salon piece Hérodiade now lost, depicts Salomé holding a tray that bore John the Baptist's head and represents the artist's mature aesthetic. The museum expanded the theme to include Moreau's productions, allowing a dialogue between the two artists' works, both conserved by national museums under a single public institution since 2017. A cultural program with storytelling visits, concerts, and theatrical readings will accompany the event. The acquisition enriches the museum's collections with a fully painted and completed version of this captivating heroine, who has fascinated artists since the Renaissance.
