Salman Toor Gets First European Solo Show at Courtauld Gallery in 2026
From October 2, 2026, to January 10, 2027, London’s Courtauld Gallery will present 'Salman Toor: Someone Like You,' the artist's inaugural solo exhibition in Europe. This showcase features 19 paintings produced since 2019, delving into themes of queer and immigrant identities through personal narratives set in bars, clubs, and home environments. Toor, who was born in Lahore in 1983 and now resides in New York, references art history from 17th-century Dutch taverns to Édouard Manet's 'A Bar at the Folies-Bergère,' part of the Courtauld's collection. Significant works include 'The Bar on 13th Street' (2019) and 'Museum Boys' (2021), with key loans from institutions like the Whitney Museum and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Additionally, a drawing exhibit will feature 'Fag Puddle in Vitrine' (2021), acquired in 2024. Toor’s earlier exhibitions include 'How Will I Know' at the Whitney in 2020 and 'No Ordinary Love' in 2022 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, and he participated in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.
