S.I. Newhouse Collection Could Top $1 Billion at Christie's Marquee Week Auction

Christie's is presenting works from the collection of late publishing titan S.I. Newhouse, who transformed Condé Nast, during its Marquee Week auction. The sale total is speculated to exceed $1 billion, a milestone achieved only once before by a single-owner collection: Paul G. Allen's $1.62 billion sale at Christie's in 2022. Other ten-figure sales include Sotheby's New York Marquee Week in May 2022 ($1.09 billion) and November 2025 ($1.17 billion, boosted by the Leonard A. Lauder Collection). The Macklowe collection nearly crossed the line at $922.2 million. Leading the Newhouse sale is Jackson Pollock's 'Number 7A, 1948', a 3-by-10-foot drip painting. Other highlights include Constantin Brancusi's bronze 'Danaïde' (1913), Pablo Picasso's 'Tête de femme' (1907), Jasper Johns's 'Gray Target' (1958), and works by Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Joan Miró, Henri Matisse, and Francis Bacon. The collection spans Cubism, Surrealism, Pop Art, and Abstract Expressionism. Previous Newhouse sales at Christie's occurred in 2019 and 2023.
