Ryan McIntosh and Yogan Muller Document Tracy Hills Development

The book 'Tracy Hills' (Radius Books, 2025) by Ryan McIntosh and Yogan Muller chronicles the development of a master-planned community in California's Central Valley from 2021 to 2024. The photographers address ecological challenges such as farmland depletion, drought, wildfires, extreme heat, and rampant development. Presented in a slipcase, the publication features two distinct volumes showcasing their different methodologies: Muller captures images with digital color photography, while McIntosh creates handmade silver chloride contact prints using an 8x10-inch view camera. Following the project's conclusion, a wildfire ravaged the region, prompting both artists to document the aftermath, highlighting the risks of construction in fragile environments. The book also includes essays by Britt Salvesen and Greg Foster-Rice. Muller, a French photographer and educator, earned a practice-based PhD from ENSAV La Cambre and Université libre de Bruxelles and has taught at UCLA DMA. His works are part of collections at the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Getty Museum.
