Ruth Asawa Estate Opens Permanent San Francisco Exhibition Space at Minnesota Street Project
On May 9, a dedicated exhibition area for modernist artist Ruth Asawa will debut at Minnesota Street Project in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood. This 1,714-square-foot venue is managed by her family's estate, Ruth Asawa Lanier, Inc. (RAL). The opening display, titled 'Ruth Asawa: Untitled,' is curated by her daughters, Addie Lanier and Aiko Cuneo, and will feature an array of works, including looped wire sculptures, cast pieces, paperfolds, watercolor artworks, and drawings. The space incorporates a redwood wall and furniture inspired by Asawa’s residence. Upcoming shows will highlight Asawa's works alongside those of her peers and exhibitions from the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. In 2024, a crater on Mercury will be named in her honor for her advocacy in arts education.
