Russell T Davies Reveals New Project, Uncertain of Its Success

Russell T Davies, the screenwriter behind Doctor Who and It's a Sin, has announced he is working on a new project but is unsure if it will succeed. Speaking at the Attitude Pride Awards, the 63-year-old Swansea-born writer discussed his latest series Tip Toe, which stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey and follows a conflict between a gay bar owner and a struggling electrician. Davies noted that while the show was inspired by the state of the world, its themes of violence and problems are not exclusive to the LGBT community, drawing parallels to Jewish or women's experiences. He expressed a commitment to continue writing about LGBT issues, stating he always finds new things to say. Tip Toe follows his award-winning series It's a Sin, which starred Olly Alexander and led to a surge in HIV testing according to the Terrence Higgins Trust. Davies also reflected on his earlier Queer as Folk series, set in Manchester's Gay Village. Last month, he confirmed his departure from Doctor Who, with a Christmas special cancelled as the BBC plans the show's next phase. Davies described the show's future as unpredictable and exciting.
