Rushnaiwala Architects designs Brutalist creative space on Indian farm inspired by Labrouste

Rushnaiwala Architects has finalized Studio Alt, a versatile creative facility situated on a 125-acre organic farm near Ahmedabad, India. This structure accommodates two artistic ventures: a hand-painted ceramics studio and a custom speaker enterprise. Inspired by Henri Labrouste's Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris, architect Rushnaiwala Muntaha and his team have reimagined its cast-iron arches using brick and concrete. The building features striking arches and a sloped roof, creating vaulted areas lit by circular skylights and curved windows. A central atrium, soaring three stories high, acts as the main gallery, while upper mezzanines house studios and a library. The south wing includes guest residency spaces and amenities, with an industrial material palette highlighting wooden speakers and ceramics in recessed alcoves. Visitors approach through shaded entry stairs beneath a mango tree. The design serves as both a flexible workspace for creativity and an architectural showcase.
