Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze's First Public Mosaic Unveiled at Brooklyn's Borough Hall Subway

The mosaic titled 'May Your Road Be Light and Fun' (2026) by Ruby Onyinyechi Amanze has been unveiled in the corridor that links the 2, 3, 4, and 5 subway lines at Brooklyn's Borough Hall station. This impressive 110-foot artwork, revealed by MTA Arts & Design on May 28, was developed in partnership with Miotto Mosaic Art Studios. It incorporates around 50 of Amanze's drawings from 2012, showcasing themes like swimming, aliens, birds, bicycles, architecture, leopard-headed figures, and paper. Crafted from glazed and matte ceramic tiles in hues of algae green, ocean blue, grays, and fuchsia against a white background, the mosaic reflects Amanze's decade-long experience in New York City and her thoughts on public transit. This piece represents her inaugural public exhibition. Stephen Miotto, the owner of Miotto Mosaic Art Studios, has created numerous subway mosaics over the past 40 years. Amanze aims to bring joy to commuters through her portrayal of 'happy and content' characters engaged in everyday activities.
