Royal Shakespeare Company Casts Sharon D. Clarke as Black Lesbian Othello

Sharon D. Clarke has been cast as Othello in a Royal Shakespeare Company production directed by Monique Touko, which will take place in a future impacted by climate change. This performance is scheduled to debut at the Swan Theatre on February 13, 2027, and will continue until April 3. Clarke, a recipient of three Olivier Awards, will be making her first appearance with the RSC. The play delves into issues of jealousy and bias stemming from an unapproved marriage. Additionally, the 2026–27 season, announced by co-artistic directors Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey, features Rufus Norris directing the world premiere of Stewart Pringle's 'Brock's Mill' from March 26 to May 8, 2027, along with a children's version of 'The Bear and the Piano' from December 11, 2026, to January 10, 2027.
