Royal College of Art Launches Two New Short Courses to Address Evolving Creative Demands

The Royal College of Art, a postgraduate art and design institution established in 1837, has introduced two new short courses aimed at equipping creatives with essential skills for a shifting professional landscape. The offerings include 'Design Without: A Neville Brody Masterclass,' an experimental program for senior practitioners led by Professor Neville Brody, a renowned designer and typographer known for his work with publications like The Face and Arena and musicians such as Depeche Mode. Brody emphasizes the need for experienced creatives to challenge assumptions and embrace risk-taking in the age of AI, focusing on process over immediate outcomes. The second course, 'Introduction to Animation: Contexts and Process,' targets beginners and career changers, drawing on the RCA's four-decade leadership in animation. It is guided by Bafta-nominated filmmaker Bunny Schendler and developed by Samantha Moore, head of the MA Animation program. These courses join existing RCA short courses such as Typography, led by Adrian Shaughnessy and Astrid Stavro. The RCA, with over 30,000 alumni and approximately 2,500 students across four schools, aims to address the impact of new technologies on creative careers. CEO Mike Bennett describes studying at the RCA as a significant career boost. The institution has been ranked top globally for art and design in the QS World University Rankings for 12 consecutive years.
