Ross Pogson's Four-Decade Career at Australian Museum as Mineralogy Expert

Ross Pogson has worked at the Australian Museum for 43 years, beginning in January 1979. He currently oversees collections containing over 60,000 minerals and 20,000 rocks. Pogson's childhood fascination with geology led to studies at the University of Technology, Sydney, and specialized research using laser Raman spectroscopy. His three-decade project at Jenolan Caves identified 15 previously unknown mineral species and revised the caves' formation timeline. Pogson has contributed to numerous exhibitions and received the Australian Museum Research Institute Medal in 2020.
