Ron Gorchov's Watercolor Exhibition 'Curated by Watercolors' Opens at Lesley Heller Workspace

Lesley Heller Workspace presents 'Curated by Watercolors,' a solo exhibition of new watercolor works on paper by painter Ron Gorchov. Opening on Sunday, September 8, 2013, the show runs through October 13 at the gallery's Lower East Side location at 54 Orchard Street. Gorchov's watercolors feature a distinctive mounting technique that allows the paper to curl away from the wall, creating unique spatial dynamics. His color palette includes lemon yellow, forest green, neon green, and deep cobalt blue, described as hot, dark, and mysterious. The works reference Greek mythology, lyric poetry, and 1930s big band music through their titles. Many pieces explore a 'twins in space' motif, depicting a dance between two parts that were once whole. The exhibition focuses exclusively on Gorchov's watercolor practice, which demonstrates the same attention to surface treatment found in his signature saddle-shaped canvases. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and Sunday from 12 to 6 PM.
