Rome's Via dei Fori Imperiali Undergoes Major Redesign as Part of CARME Urban Regeneration

A significant redesign of Via dei Fori Imperiali in Rome is now visible at the construction site between Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum. This transformation is part of the broader CARME project, which aims to regenerate the city's central archaeological area. The architectural firm Labics, known for redesigning the Venice Biennale's Central Pavilion, won the competition for this project, which is supervised by Walter Tocci for the municipality. The new design features diagonal travertine lines referencing the ancient forums' perimeters, countering the original 1932 fascist-era road that divided the archaeological zone. While construction is underway, questions remain about whether the implemented design matches Labics' original winning proposal, as the site signage lists different architects.
