Romantic Landscapes from Britain and Germany on view at the Morgan Library

Currently on display at New York's Morgan Library is the exhibition titled 'A Dialogue with Nature: Romantic Landscapes from Britain and Germany.' This showcase features 37 small-scale artworks by late 18th and 19th-century artists. Notable contributors include John Constable, Casper David Friedrich, JMW Turner, Samuel Palmer, and Carl Friedrich Lessing from both Germany and the UK. The exhibition emphasizes the emotional depth of Romanticism, showcasing works like Constable's 1824 Cloud Study, which is seen as abstract and meditative, and Friedrich's 1815 drawing Jakobikirche in Greifswald as a Ruin. Additionally, Lessing's 1837 Landscape with a Cemetery and a Church evokes a haunting atmosphere. Organized in partnership with the Courtauld Gallery, the exhibition includes a catalogue featuring essays by Rachel Sloan and Matthew Hargraves and will remain open until an undisclosed date.
