Rirkrit Tiravanija Presents Major Exhibition 'The House That Jack Built' at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan

Thai-born artist Rirkrit Tiravanija has opened a comprehensive exhibition titled 'The House That Jack Built' at Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan. The show, curated by Vincente Todolì and Lucia Aspesi, features ten significant works from his three-decade career, many recreated specifically for this presentation. Tiravanija, known for his participatory and socially engaged practice, describes the artist's role as being 'an open door' that allows people to access art. The exhibition includes interactive installations that reference modernist architectural models by figures like Le Corbusier, Schindler, Prouvé, and Scarpa, transformed into spaces for communal activities such as drinking tea, playing games, or listening to live music. One installation, a half-scale house by Sigurd Lewerentz, is accessible only to children. The exhibition, which opened in March 2026 and runs until July 26, 2026, represents the artist's largest presentation to date. Tiravanija emphasizes creating opportunities for public engagement, stating that he sets the table for the institution to invite people to participate. The show also includes a curated section featuring works by other artists including Bayrle, Kogler, Pardo, and Rosler, creating an exhibition within the exhibition. A weekly program of community activities further activates the spaces.
