opinion-review · 2026-10-23

This fall, a lineup of award-winning films showcases four Asian actresses. Rinko Kikuchi portrays Haru in "Ha-chan, Shake Your Booty!" by Josef Kubota Wladyka, which premiered in the US last month. In this film, her widowed character finds romance with a dance instructor while grappling with memories of her deceased husband. Jeon Do-yeon collaborates once again with Lee Chang-dong in "Possible Love," set to hit US theaters this Friday and stream on Netflix starting November 6; she takes on the role of Mi-ok, caught in a complicated friendship. Tao Okamoto features as a terminally ill theater director in Ryusuke Hamaguchi's "All of a Sudden," debuting November 25. Hoyeon makes her film debut in Na Hong-jin's "Hope," released in September, as a rookie officer in South Korea's most expensive film.
