Report Reveals Vitality of Sub-$50,000 Art Market with Growing Collector Base
A recent study reveals that the segment of the art market featuring works priced below $50,000 serves as its primary driving force, with transaction volumes surpassing those of more expensive categories and a growing base of collectors. This year, 69% of galleries anticipate an increase in sales, and confidence for 2026 has climbed from 44% in 2025 to 60%. Additionally, 43% of galleries have seen more new buyers compared to five years ago, with 44% observing younger collectors. Among these, 57% of Millennials and 55% of Gen Z prioritize supporting artists, while only 19% focus on investment value. Physical art fairs generate 44% of gallery revenue, with 86% of collectors finding art there, and online auctions now represent over half of transaction volumes. More than 80% of small galleries report stable or improved sales.
