Renovation of a 19th-Century Madrid Apartment by Teleno Studio Emphasizes Soft Light and Shadow

Teleno Studio, led by architects Antonio Cordero Castro and Cristian Álvarez Blanco, has completed the renovation of a 56-square-meter apartment in a 19th-century building in central Madrid. The project, titled Casa en Penumbra, transforms the interior into a domestic environment characterized by gentle, filtered light, where shadow serves as a defining architectural element. Curated by Valentina Díaz, the design focuses on creating a subdued atmosphere through careful material and spatial choices. Photography for the project was handled by Germán Saiz. Key furnishings include 'Doughnuts' stools designed by Rud Thygesen and Johny Sorensen for Magnus Olesen in the 1960s, and painting work by Chus García Fraile. Completed in 2025, this renovation falls under the category of apartment interiors, showcasing how historical urban dwellings can be updated with contemporary sensibilities that prioritize ambiance and minimalism.
