Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Spring/Summer 2027 Envisions a Post-War World

Rei Kawakubo presented her Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Spring/Summer 2027 collection in Paris, titled "If the War Were To End.." The show took place at the Élysée Montmarte, with an accompanying installation at Dover Street Market's Paris outpost featuring a United Nations of Comme des Garçons flags. The collection served as a counterpart to her Autumn/Winter 2025 show "To Hell With War," which featured twisted military garb and floral combat helmets. For Spring/Summer 2027, Kawakubo reimagined camouflage in pacifist whites, punkish tartans, and bright pastels, stripping military motifs of menace. Garments included narrow-shouldered blazers and coats over culotte shorts with soft ruffles, and flag patches formed colorful panels. The finale featured young male models storming out joyously, resembling schoolchildren. Kawakubo's previous response to what made her angry was "complacency, contradiction and unfairness." The collection reflects on the concept of war as a whole, offering a hopeful, reflective vision without commenting on specific conflicts.
