Ree Morton Gets First UK Solo Show at Richard Saltoun Gallery

The Richard Saltoun Gallery in London is presenting 'Ree Morton: Signs and Gestures', marking the first solo exhibition in the UK for American conceptual and feminist artist Ree Morton (1936–1977). Morton's creations foreshadowed the installation, narrative, and performance art movements of the 1970s. Originally from Ossining, New York, she became a mother of three and pursued her art education in her 30s after previously working as a nurse and housewife. She famously articulated her journey as 'the feminist classic of out of the kitchen; into the studio'. Despite her short life, ending at 40, Morton had a vibrant teaching career across the United States. The exhibition contextualizes her work within the evolving feminist narrative and the changing perceptions of female artists.
