Red Orkestra Returns with Sixth Album 'Letters From Afar'

Canadian alt-folk-rock band Red Orkestra has released their sixth album, 'Letters From Afar', marking their first new music since 2018. The album, featuring ten tracks, was released under the Portuguese label conglomerate associated with musician and publisher Nuno Saraiva. The band, formed in Toronto in 2003, gained attention in Germany with performances such as at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg in 2012, and undertook an intense touring schedule in 2007, playing in fourteen cities in seventeen days during spring, followed by fifteen more shows in Europe in autumn. The band's name references the 'Rote Kapelle' (Red Orchestra), a term used by the Gestapo for anti-fascist resistance groups during World War II, including a Soviet spy network and resistance circles in Germany, one of whose members, Harro Schulze-Boysen, was arrested and executed on December 22, 1942. The new album includes rock tracks like the lead single 'You're So Far Away', as well as political anthems 'Mao & Stalin' and the closing track 'Everstrong'. The music alternates between nostalgic longing and defiant energy, creating a journey both personal and universal. The band members are Johnny Charmer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Steve Parkinson (lead guitar, backing vocals), Neil McDonald (bass), and Rick Andrade (drums). The album is released on Red Woke Records with distribution by Broken Silence.
