Recycled Concrete Pipes Form Interactive Pavilion at Busan Museum

Designer Hyunje Joo has created 'Concrete Utopia,' a public installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan in South Korea. The project repurposes discarded concrete pipes into an open-ended pavilion that functions as play structures, encouraging climbing, sitting, and gathering. The work addresses the environmental impact of concrete, one of the world's most consumed materials, by proposing adaptive reuse as both a spatial strategy and a commentary on urban resilience. Through reorganizing industrial waste into inhabitable forms, the installation shifts perception from infrastructure to architecture while extending material lifecycles.
