Rauschenberg Foundation Donates Three Gluts Sculptures to Artist Rooms Collection

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation has contributed three pieces from the Gluts series to the Artist Rooms collection, which is collaboratively managed by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland. The sculptures—G-I Glut (1986), Rasputin's Revenge Early Winter Glut (1987), and Mobile Cluster Glut (Neapolitan) (1987)—are set to be showcased at Tate Modern from September 20 until December 2027. Rauschenberg's Gluts series marks his initial significant exploration into metal, incorporating found items into wall reliefs and standalone sculptures that critique consumerism. Courtney J. Martin, the foundation's executive director, highlighted the works' exploration of value and waste. This donation enhances Artist Rooms, established through Anthony d'Offay's 2008 tax-efficient transfer of 725 artworks valued at £125m for £26.5m. Tate and NGS severed ties with d'Offay in 2020 following his denial of sexual harassment claims. Gregor Muir remarked that the collection's pieces are lent to art institutions across the UK.
