Rare Nicholas II gold coin to be auctioned by Heritage in New York

Heritage Auctions will offer an exceptionally rare Russian 10 Roubles coin from 1896 in its CSNS World & Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature Auction on April 29-30. The Nicholas II gold Specimen Imperial coin, graded SP61 by PCGS, is considered rarer than previously documented, with original mintage records indicating 125 pieces but current certified populations at PCGS and NGC showing only a handful of examples. Cris Bierrenbach, Vice President of International Numismatics at Heritage Auctions, describes the coin as magnificent and capable of assuming a prominent place in any collection. The discrepancy between historical mintage figures and current certified populations suggests the original population may have been smaller than reported, or many pieces were lost over time. This auction represents a significant opportunity for collectors to acquire one of the finest known examples of this rare Russian imperial coinage.
