Progetto Platform in Lecce: Independent Contemporary Art Space Focused on Residencies and Research

Progetto is an independent contemporary art platform located in Lecce's historic center at Via Idomeneo 72, founded and directed by artist-curator Jamie Sneider in 2019. The initiative focuses on experimental practices, artist residencies, and new production, inviting international artists to engage with the Salento region's history and community through non-hierarchical, long-term processes. Its exhibition program began in 2019 with Ektor Garcia's 'fortaleza' and has featured numerous artists including Nina Canell, Robin Watkins, K. Verlag, Michael Dean, Dora Budor, Michèle Graf, Selina Grüter, Noah Barker, Ser Serpas, Bri Williams, Lydia Ourahmane, Grant Mooney, Aria Dean, and Soil Thornton. The most recent exhibition by Niloufar Emamifar concluded on December 31, 2025. Beyond exhibitions, Progetto has expanded to include a library with over 200 multilingual publications and an archive dedicated to contemporary art resources and exhibition history, last updated on February 26, 2026. The platform also hosts symposia, shared readings, screenings, and performances addressing ecological issues in Salento, labor history in Puglia, ritual practices, gender and identity writings, and political-economic theory, making these resources available to both resident artists and the local community.
