Production Type Releases Léa Bruneau's Ciel, a Monospaced Typeface Where Ornament Leads Meaning

publication · 2026-10-17

Ciel, a typeface crafted by Léa Bruneau for Production Type, showcases decorative capitals set within compact monospaced squares. On a deep maroon backdrop, four wireframe letters (C, I, E, L) glow in red, intersected by pink construction lines. The design evokes both embroidery and circuitry, with all glyphs contained in uniform square boxes. Drawing inspiration from British copperplate calligraphy, Ciel is offered in five weights, ranging from ExtraLight to ExtraBold. The numerals are rendered in vibrant red, featuring distinct construction nodes. Additionally, three styles of interwoven capitals add an ornamental touch. Ciel received the Best of Show and Gold awards at the European Design Awards 2026, among other honors. Static OTF, TTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 files are currently available.
