ProArtes México: Peter Hay and Stephanie García's Binational Art Platform
In 2016, Peter Hay, a curator from Salt Lake City, was invited by the Mexican government to the VIII Encuentro de las Artes Escénicas in Mexico City, where he met Stephanie García, an arts administrator. This encounter led to the establishment of ProArtes México in 2018, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering cultural exchange. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization adapted by launching bilingual podcasts and online events, culminating in the release of Aquí y Allá: Conversaciones con Creadores. In 2025, ProArtes México showcased (Im)possibilidades at Ogden Contemporary Arts and Coyotek at the El Paso Museum of Art. García, pursuing an MFA in Salt Lake City, was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for 2025, while Hay is set to curate Daniel Godinez Nivón's exhibition in 2027 at 516 Arts in Albuquerque.
