Princeton University Art Museum receives landmark gift of 20th-century Haitian paintings

A significant donation of 34 Haitian paintings from the twentieth century has been made to the Princeton University Art Museum by Kay Culbreath Heller and J. Roderick Heller, both members of the Class of 1959. This collection, which features renowned modern artists such as Rigaud Benoit, Wilson Bigaud, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Hector Hyppolite, Jasmin Joseph, Philomé Obin, Sénèque Obin, André Pierre, Louisiane Saint-Fleurant, and Gerard Valcin, enhances the Museum's modern and contemporary Caribbean art representation. This contribution marks the beginning of a dedicated collection of Haitian art, reinforcing the Museum’s dedication to showcasing artists from the African diaspora and enriching its engagement with various historical, political, and spiritual narratives.
