Prague Apartment Renovation Blends Industrial Minimalism with Art Deco Touches

A 115-square-meter apartment in Prague, originally built in the late 1930s, underwent renovation in 2026 by designer Prokop Hartl for a young family. Located in a building overlooking the Vltava River, the residence combines contemporary industrial minimalism with playful pastel accents that reference its art deco heritage. The redesign involved removing a partition to create a spacious living area that frames river views, while structural columns and exposed concrete beams are highlighted as focal points. Materials include restored oak parquet flooring, new poured polyurethane floors, and built-in oak veneer wardrobes that define circulation paths. The kitchen, relocated to a central former maid's room, features a dark blue-stained island, granite countertops, and a custom dining table made of hot-dip galvanised steel and bleached pine plywood. A former kitchen area was converted into a bedroom suite with a walk-in shower enclosed in glass blocks. Furniture and decor are minimal, with custom pieces from studio anýz and artworks by Lukáš Koubek, alongside products from brands like Franke, Grohe, Hay, Ideal Lux, Kluś, Rako, Sapeli, Ton, and ABB. The renovation emphasizes a deliberate balance between historical elements and modern design, optimizing light and space throughout.
