Prado Museum Reinterprets Spanish Renaissance Origins Through New Acquisitions Display

The Museo Nacional del Prado has implemented a significant reinstallation in one of its Renaissance exhibition spaces, specifically Room 49. This new arrangement positions two recently obtained paintings as focal points for a revised historical account of the Spanish Renaissance's development. The artworks, created by Pedro Machuca and Pedro de Campaña, are now exhibited in proximity to pieces by Raphael and Sebastiano del Piombo. This curatorial decision aims to provide a novel viewpoint on the transmission and adaptation of artistic concepts throughout Europe during the early 1500s. Both Machuca and Campaña were part of an artistic cohort that sought inspiration from Italian masters, including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael, during a period of profound transformation in painting.
