Posthumous Release of Ingvar Ambjørnsen's Final Book 'Niemand da' with Expanded German Edition

Ingvar Ambjørnsen's final book 'Niemand da' was published in March 2026 by Edition Nautilus, originally planned for his 70th birthday on May 20, 2026 but released early following his death in July 2025 after a long illness in Norway. The Norwegian author, who lived in Hamburg with his wife and translator Gabriele Haefs, completed seven stories before his passing. The German edition includes five additional unpublished stories from his estate, expanding beyond the original Norwegian version titled 'Sorgen i St. Peter Ording' published by Cappelen Damm in Oslo in July 2025. Haefs explains the title change: St. Peter-Ording, one of Ambjørnsen's favorite places, holds no associations in Norway, and the German edition contains more content. One unfinished story, 'Toter Hund,' remains incomplete with fragments added by the author. The collection showcases Ambjørnsen's signature style of exploring outsiders and anti-heroes through dreamlike narratives that blend harsh reality with ambiguity. His literary voice, known for its empathetic focus on marginalized characters, fell silent on July 19, 2025. The book contains 205 pages bound in hardcover with ISBN 978-3-96054-475-3, translated by Haefs who also provides the preface detailing the seven completed stories.
