Polymode Sans: A Queer Typeface with a 'Realness Axis'

Polymode Studio, a graphic design company established by LGBTQ+ individuals and minorities, has collaborated with XYZ Type to introduce Polymode Sans, a new variable typeface inspired by queer ball culture. This innovative font incorporates a distinctive four-stage "Realness axis," encompassing concepts like Act Basic, Go to Work, Have Attitude, and Be Opulent, which reflect the evolving nature of queer identity and self-acceptance. In conjunction with the typeface, a series of essays titled "Identity is Variable" has been published. This initiative seeks to honor Queer Design beyond the confines of Pride month, promoting visibility year-round.
